48 Hours in Nashville

My friends have sort of a love/hate relationship with my photography skills. They love the fact that I take all these wonderful photos when we’re together, but I’m pretty sure they all hate that it takes me four months to go through them, clean them up, edit them, share them and post them anywhere. Oops. =)

Back in January, we took a quick little weekend trip to Nashville to celebrate Tina’s 30th birthday. It was 48 hours of eating, drinking, singing, dancing, and exploring. It went a little something like this: We arrived, we checked in, we ate lunch, we drank whiskey, we had an amazing dinner, we bar hopped downtown. We woke up, we hit up the farmer’s market, we ate some kettle corn, we rented bicycles, we got lost (oops), we turned around, we rode through Printers Alley, we toured Ryman Auditorium, we bought some Hatch prints, we drank some a lot of margaritas, we went to Tootsie’s, things got a little fuzzy after that. We woke up again, we had an amazing breakfast, we checked out, we took a cab 16 miles out of the way to get ice cream (it was worth it), we peaced out.

Not the most descriptive travel post I’ve ever written, but I’m afraid people will stop posing for my photos if I keep procrastinating on this one. If I linked to anything above, I’m recommending you check it out. =)

You’re Invited

Mom: Oh, so this year’s benefit dinner is the same weekend as the Shamrock Marathon…

Lisa: Oh yeah? So are you running that thing or what? =)

No, seriously though…

Every year, my parents come down, and we attend the annual Hands to Angels Foundation benefit dinner. Some of you have had the pleasure of joining us through the years, and you know it’s so much fun and all for a very worthy cause. This year’s fifth annual benefit dinner will be March 16, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. at the Cavalier Hotel & Beach Club. You’re invited, and you should definitely buy a ticket and come. =)

The Hands to Angels Foundation was founded in 2008 to support the ongoing research of rare genetic disorders and to assist families dealing with mounting medical bills and lost wages due to complications of a genetic disorder. It is a federally-approved non-profit organization, and was created in honor and memory of my friend’s son, Kevin.

The benefit dinner coming up on March 16 in Virginia Beach is the fifth annual fundraiser that’s being held to raise money for this very worthy cause. The dinner is open to anyone, and tickets are $40 in advance (or $50 at the door). Tickets and event details are available here. If you’d like to attend, please buy your tickets as soon as possible!

The night’s festivities will include dinner, dancing, and a silent auction. I’ll be donating a gift basket, and it will be just one of many awesome gifts and prizes raffled and auctioned off at the event!

And now, be sold on attending by imagining yourself in these photos from the last four annual dinners. Go.

First Annual, Valentine’s Day, 2009. Attend with John, Kerri, Dave and my parents. Purchase ridiculous amount of raffle tickets, and take borderline inappropriate photos with them. Win not one, but two gift baskets. Night goes down as one of the best Valentine’s Days in history of Valentine’s Days. #success

Second Annual, February 27, 2010. Donate first gift basket, won by Meagan (see below). Attend with my parents, John, Lauren, Jeremy, Dawn, Tina, Heather, and Heather’s date (who later turns out to be a total weirdo later in the evening…long story). Wear very first Nanette Lepore dress. My mom and Linda do the YMCA while selling raffle tickets. Win a two more sweet gift baskets.

Third Annual, March 12, 2011. Attend with my parents, two Johns, Heather, Jeremy, and Vince. Donate Jimmy Buffett-themed picnic basket (pictured below). My mom donates gift card cookies. Find new and exiting ways to pose with raffle tickets.

Fourth Annual, February 25, 2012. Attend with my parents, John and Jeremy. I truly outdo myself buying raffle tickets to make up for the fact that I didn’t donate a basket. Win season passes to Busch Gardens and a $100 gift card to Terrapin, among other things. I don’t win iPad, but someone does, and that’s what’s important. Mardi Gras theme, so my mom wears a crazy feather headband. My bangs and eyeliner look, quite possibly, their best ever.

Fifth Annual, March 16, 2013. You better be there.

Fashion’s Night Out

By events, fashion statements, hampton roads, lifestyle, partying like a rock star, shopping, style One Comment

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending Fashion’s Night Out at Peninsula Town Center as a photographer. It was so much fun mingling and snapping pictures of Hampton Roads’ local fashionistas looking their best. I loved participating in a local event celebrating fashion in conjunction with NYFW, and Peninsula Town Center went all out. They brought in celebrity stylist Stephen “Cojo” Cojocaru, gave away special gifts and hundreds of goodie bags, and rolled out the red carpet at shops throughout the center to offer special deals and sales to shoppers. They also hosted a fabulous VIP pre-party at Cinebistro, where Cojo revealed the new look of PTC’s FNO makeover winner, Christina Morales. She looked drop-dead gorgeous in a sparkly neutral dress, strappy heels, and a glamorous new hairstyle.

As partygoers hung on every word of Cojo’s style advice, I thought nothing of my own outfit, since I was flitting around behind the camera taking pictures of as many people as I could. It was right around the time he started warning against over-highlighting one’s locks and delighting in the fact that women look so put-together in heels that I started to think, “Uh oh…maybe I’m underdressed.” =)

Luckily, I was wrong. I got plenty of compliments on my layered rainy-day photographer look (which featured a sleeveless trench, red Hunter boots and my trusty Ona bag). I think the most flattering one came from Hillary Puckett, a local contributor to College Fashionista, when she asked if she could take a picture of my outfit! Thanks, Hillary! =)

Special thanks and congratulations to my friend Suzanne, who invited me up to take pictures and played a huge role in planning Fashion’s Night Out at Pensinsula Town Center.

If you were in attendance and would like to see the rest of my photos, you can find them here. =)

Fashion’s Night Out celebrates its fourth anniversary this year, and the event will make its local debut at Peninsula Town Center this September. FNO kicks off New York Fashion Week, and is an event that’s grown on a global scale since its inception in 2009.

I’m so flattered to be attending PTC’s first FNO event as a photographer! In return for my services, PTC has offered me two tickets to an exclusive Pre-Event VIP Party at Cinebistro, and I’m so excited to give them away to one of my local readers! The winner and a guest will attend a special meet and greet from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with celebrity stylist Steven “COJO” Cojocaru and receive an FNO tote bag filled with goodies. After that, you’ll join COJO and the rest of the FNO-goers in Town Square for an official FNO kickoff, fashion tips, special prize drawings and more. Then, from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., select PTC merchants will roll out the red carpets for shoppers to enjoy in-store promotions and events.

To enter, all you need to do is this: Check out Peninsula Town Center’s shopping directory, and tell me which store is your favorite and why. =) This giveaway begins now and ends next Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 12:01 AM EDT.

If you don’t happen to win, or you’d like more tickets, you can purchase them through the Junior League of Hampton Roads here.

Good luck, and I hope to see you there!
