By | shopping | No Comments

For some reason, sitting around in New Jersey on a cold winter day makes me feel like shopping. I don’t really need anything, nor do I have a pile of money sitting around to spend. So I’m not really shopping.

But the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale started today, and it’s been a long time since I did a blog post full of sale picks…so here’s what I’d buy if I did need anything and I did have a pile of money sitting around to spend. 🙂

3. J.Crew Buffalo Check Cotton & Wool Boy Shirt
4. Vince Camuto Fit & Flare Sweater Dress

How I’m Going to Save Time Doing Laundry for the Rest of My Life

lost socks

I bought 15 pairs of these, nine pairs of these, and six pairs of these (in black), and I’m never ever wasting a moment of my life matching up socks again.

Inevitably, my supply of socks will run low again at some point, and when that happens, I plan to replace all of them at once. And that just means I’m going to save money on all the socks I don’t buy when I run into Target “really quick” for cat litter or gluten-free macaroni and cheese.

Want to steal my idea? Here are some decent options for similar no-show, athletic, and boot socks:

If not, you probably need this.

Finish This… #7: buying, stars, courage, and swimsuit shopping.

By | at the office, finish this..., movies, shopping | 2 Comments

Yup, still a slacker. Squeezing this puppy in with just a few hours left in the day. A more devoted blogger would have gotten this done last night and scheduled it to post a 4am this morning. I have no excuse. Well, actually I have three. Work. Headache. I really wanted to finish the book I was reading.

As you likely know by now, this is a weekly link-up hosted by Nicole (Three 31), Jen (The Arizona Russums), Becky (The Java Mama), and I.

Okay, here goes Week 7.

1. I plan on buying…
…a pair of trail shoes to wear when I go to Hawaii in April. Got any recommendations? So far I’ve ordered these Olukai sneakers so far. I suspect they won’t look very attractive on me, and I’m sure I’ll order several more pairs before I find a winner.

true romance

2. I give ____ five stars because…
True Romance! I finally saw this movie for the first time on Friday night, and I loved it so much! I was also lucky enough to see it on the big screen at the Naro theater in Norfolk, which was an added bonus. Loved the characters, loved the story, loved the soundtrack, loved the leopard print, and especially loved the sunglasses.

3. I felt courageous when…
…I nominated myself to manage my company’s Salesforce.com CRM implementation. It’s a big project, and it’s why I’ve been so busy, but it’s totally worth it, and it’s going to completely change the way we do business. Things are only going to get more hectic, but I’m enjoying the challenge.

4. I feel about swimsuit shopping like I do…
…pretty much about anything else — indecisive and kind of nutty. My thoughts go like this: Swimsuit shopping? Yay! Summer! Wait? I have to wear a swimsuit? Crap. I should eat a salad for lunch tomorrow. And go for a run. But I really like this one… Are swimsuits really worth this much money? What color will make me look tan? Will I look fat in this? Am I too old for bikinis? Should I get a one-piece? Maybe I’ll use my surfboard this summer. I want to go on vacation. Oh yeah! I am going on vacation. Shit! That means I really do need to go swimsuit shopping. 🙂

Scallops + Sand Dollars

Dress: Lilly Pulitzer. Shoes: Audrey Brooke via DSW. Belt: Lilly Pulitzer. Bag: Vintage St. John via Allan & Suzi in Asbury Park, NJ.

Tomorrow is National Wear Your Lilly Day, so I figured I’d post a few photos of this dress and belt I picked up last weekend to wear to our friends’ wedding. In all honesty, I ventured into Ocean Palm last Saturday looking for a belt to wear with this dress, but…light blue sand dollar print eyelet? I couldn’t resist. Although, after this last Lilly splurge (which included this belt, this belt and this skort), I’m going to take a little break from shopping until at least my next visit to NJ.

The wedding was beautiful, and I took lots more photos. I’ll share them once I’ve had a chance to go through them all.

Happy first day of summer tomorrow! Do something fun! (And enter my sunglasses giveaway here!)

1. Jenna Marbles makes me laugh. Is this how you get dressed?

2. Friday marks first day of summer, which is also National Wear Your Lilly Day. I need more neon in my life. Also, skorts are amazing.

3. I’m so horrible about grocery shopping. I’m so busy all the time that I’m constantly eating out. I’m contemplating signing up for Backyard Produce, which is a new service that will deliver local, organic produce to your door once a week. Anyone have any experience with or thoughts on this type of service?

4. Big Brother has been a summertime guilty pleasure for years, providing me with countless (well, actually about three) hours of entertainment every week from June to September. The new season premieres next week, and I’m already intrigued by the decor in this year’s house — mid-century chic, they’re calling it.

5. This past Saturday, prior to attending a wedding in the evening, I squeezed in some last-minute shopping for a pair of strappy sandals that met three criteria: gold, leather, comfy enough to dance in all night. I was fortunate to find this pair for under $50 that did just the trick!

6. Sad cat diary? Somehow I don’t think my cats have it this hard.

7. This article gives an interesting perspective on television theme music in the age of bing watching.

8. These gorgeous/minimalist water bottles are fabulous. Love this quote: “bkr is a statement against a disposable world, against transporting water between continents, and against the chemicals we ingest when we base our decisions on convenience.” Well played, bkr. You’re on my wishlist.

9. This Wedding Party app was the life of the party this weekend at Kailey & JJ’s wedding. Think Instagram scaled down to only your wedding guests.

10. I’m in love with these aviators I ordered from ASOS, but they look super silly on me. Hence, sunglasses givewaway!

More than halfway to the weekend. Hope you’re having a great week so far!
