I visited Nordstrom today at lunch to take a whiff of the new David Yurman fragrance. It was officially launched in back in July, but Nordstrom just unveiled it today. (And since southeastern Virginia is a shopping void, of course today was the first day I could get anywhere near it.)

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. There are a lot of perfumes that I simply hate and only a few that I really love. David Yurman slipped gracefully right into that second category after about 20 minutes or so. I’ve been wearing it for about three hours now, and it definitely has staying power. It’s not too warm, not too cool; not too girly, not too masculine; it’s just perfect. It’s right up there with Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue for me, and when I come up with the funds to purchase a bottle ($120 for the 50mL/$165 for the 75mL), it will probably become my signature winter scent.

I’m not a perfume expert by any means, but from the research I’ve done, I can tell you that this fragrance features notes of mandarin, fresh green petals, cassis, peony, water lily, natural rose otto, patchouli, exotic woods and soft musk. I like it.

It smells luxurious, yet natural and outdoorsy at the same time. In no way does it give off that high maintenance, label-whore vibe that some expensive perfumes do. If anything, something about it portrays independence and strength, and worldliness (maybe it’s the bottle).
