I have been extremely busy at work ordering holiday gifts for clients and envelopes for the holiday card mailing, creating labels, entering projects into awards, proofing and writing proposals to the government, and begging for the installation of Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator onto my computer so that I can finish up a brochure for the Construction Management Services department. I come in in the morning, spend some time chatting on the phone with Vickie from PromoRx in Georgia about screenprinting USB memory sticks and debossing travel kits, and then I search the office for people willing to give me their credit card numbers to pay for the various orders I’ve placed and be reimbursed later. Sometimes, something exciting happens — like I get to discuss port operations in China or add some drawings into the proposal I’ve been working on for weeks that never seems to be finished. The best part of the day comes when someone says, “Hey, thanks for entering that project into the ACEC/VA Engineering Excellence Awards! We’re so excited it won! Did you see our name and the picture of the EMT in the ACEC newsletter?” That’s always nice.

I think my job is pretty cool. I think I better get back to it and stop slacking off. There are 900 envelopes that need ordering.
