Sammy is just a bundle of laughs today. I went downstairs a little while ago to find her sticking a candle in the last piece of leftover birthday cake.
“What in God’s name are you doing now?” I asked as she lit the candle.
“I’m having another birthday party,” she replied.
“Right. I should have known. Fine. Just don’t set anything on fire,” I said as I exited the kitchen.
Then she walked over to the table and proceeded to sing “Happy Birthday” to herself before she removed the candle and ate this huge chunk of chocolate cake. (Note: her birthday was two days ago.)
She came upstairs soon after that.
“What are you doing? What did you do with the cake and the candle?”
“I ate it.”
“Did you clean up? Did you clear your plate and throw out the candle?” I asked, even though I knew the answer – her face was covered in chocolate.
“Um…no.”
“Where is it?”
“On the table.”
“Well, un-Birthday girl, go clean it up.”
“No.”
“Why not?” I demanded.
Hands on her hips, she stood in the bathroom doorway and glared at me. “Because I said so.”
