Year In Review

By December 28, 2010 year in review

I filled this questionnaire out in 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004 and 2003, too!

What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before? Participated in the 30 for 30 Challenge, literally dug myself through 30 inches of snow, attended an opera

Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I kept a lot of them! I’ll be posting my final resolution update of the year later this week.

Did anyone close to you give birth? Yes, Kristy gave birth to Sadie on February 21. Old family friends Lauren and Kimberly both had baby boys this year.

Did anyone close to you die? My cousin’s husband passed away as a result of some very aggressive cancer last night. My thoughts are with her and their children and his family during this difficult time.

What countries did you visit? I visited a little bit of this one – Atlantic City in March, Las Vegas in May, New Jersey & New York City in July and August, and New Jersey again in November and December

What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010? A digital SLR camera

What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory? May 8-9

What was your biggest achievement of the year? The Big Mike Award at work. I won an all expenses paid trip to St. Maarten for me and a date! It’s coming up in a few weeks.

What was your biggest failure? Still not having that mortgage situation straightened out. Oh, and crashing my car into someone else’s on the Interstate.

Did you suffer illness or injury? My back has been bothering me for a few weeks, but that’s about it.

What was the best thing you bought? Cole Haan bag on eBay

Whose behavior merited celebration? Mine for continuing to be persistent with the mortgage company even though I hate them.

Where did most of your money go? Mortgage payments, clothes, car

What did you get really, really, really excited about? Girls’ trip to Las Vegas, Fashion Exhibit at the Met, Jimmy Buffett concert

What song will always remind you of 2010? “Tik Tok” by Ke$ha

Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder? About the same
Thinner or fatter? Thinner
Richer or poorer? About the same

What do you wish you’d done more of? Partying, traveling, reading, going to the beach

What do you wish you’d done less of? Sitting around, aimlessly playing computer, shopping, getting my car fixed

How will you be spending Christmas? John and I exchanged Christmas gifts on December 22 before I drove home to NJ. I gave him a really nice wine rack, champagne glasses, pajamas, a belt, and a dress shirt. He gave me a French press, a milk frother, coffee, a framed photo of us, a Flip Video, and Oakley sunglasses. I drove home on the 23rd and went out to a nice dinner at Brando’s in Asbury Park. Then my mom and I hit up the grocery store and Bed Bath & Beyond for some last-minute holiday baking supplies. We baked cookies and a chocolate peppermint cake in the morning, and then I spent Christmas Eve at my grandparents’ house with my parents, my brother, my grandparents, Joelle, Cricky, Aunt Angel, Uncle Cricket, Uncle Johnny, and miraculously, My Uncle Vinny, Aunt Debbie, Vincent and Joey. My cousin Mikey had to work, but it was nice to have almost everyone in the same place! After that, my brother and I watched Easy A. On Christmas morning, Stephen and I opened presents under the tree with my parents. I got a scarf from Anthropologie, a black cashmere sweater, and a netbook! Plus lots of other awesome  stuff. We drove up to Aunt Debbie’s and Uncle Sal’s for appetizers, and then went to Aunt Angel’s and Uncle Cricket’s for dinner. It was so fun to get to see Joelle two days in a row! On the 26th, my mom and I went shopping at Lord & Taylor, Anthropologie and J.Crew…then the snow started, and my long weekend has turned into an extended vacation because I’m likely to be stuck here for at least another day or two.

Did you fall in love in 2010? Nope – still in love w/the person from 2008. Duh. 🙂

How many one-night stands? 0

Who were your best friends? Kristy, Tina, John, Heather

What thing did you do that was meaningful to others? I was really focused on work this year. I did a lot to support our ISO/quality team and played a huge part in our company achieving their ISO 9001:2008 certification. I also played a key role in coordinating and writing two major proposals at work, plus so, so, so many smaller ones. I think my contributions at work this year have been meaningful to many of my coworkers.

I also wrote a pretty detailed post on short refinancing back in September, which I think was meaningful to a few people facing difficulty with their mortgages. I received several e-mails in response to the post, and I think I was actually able to give some people some decent advice to get them going in the right direction.

What was your favorite TV program? Gossip Girl, Chuck, The Amazing Race, Survivor, Big Brother, Vampire Diaries

Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? Getting there.

What was the best book you read? Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster

What was your greatest musical discovery? Ra Ra Riot

What did you want and get? A khaki trench coat, cognac boots, Tory Burch flats, a girls’ trip to Vegas, a netbook

What did you want and not get? The house to myself (i.e., no more roommate!), the mortgage refinanced out of my co-borrower’s name (still!)

What was your favorite film of this year? Get Him to The Greek, Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinksy, Easy A

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? 29. A bunch of my friends joined me for dinner at Il Giardino, and then we went to Waterman’s for Orange Crushes. It wasn’t quite as exciting as last year. The party kind of fizzled out before midnight. John gave me a radio for my car with Bluetooth and an iPod connection, and my parents sent me a navy Elevenses blazer and a nautical teacup and saucer from Antrhopologie.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Refinancing my condo into my own name

What kept you sane? Blogging

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Emily Schuman, Jessica Quirk, Kendi Skeen (I think bloggers with that many readers are definitely “public figures.”)

What political issue stirred you the most? The economy, health care, the weather.

Who did you miss? Kristy, Kerri, my family, Grandma Tillie

Who was the best new person you met this year? Definitely Tim Butler in Las Vegas. Made us laugh for months.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010: Quality over quantity.

Quote that sums up your year: “8227224.”

This crazy trip has got me feelin’: chilly
